synopsis

Mutu, the young dog lives with Mr. Kim the writer. Mutu becomes envious of Kumdori the old dog, who pleases the drunken master with beautiful dance. Mutu goes to Dokkebi (Korean traditional demons) to learn dancing. They trick him and he ends up in a circus.  The rough circus life makes him weary and homesick. Friends of the circus (a duck, a cat and a monkey) help him to write a letter to his owner with no avail. The duck dies. Mutu must make a choice: a comfortable life with his master or the hard life of an artist.

artistic statement

Inspired by Chekhov’s “Kashutanka”, Mutu uses traditional music and movements to create a modern Korean play.
